About Freshwater Land Trust

The Freshwater Land Trust in coordination with community members, city officials and staff from all of the municipalities within Jefferson County, and partner organizations that recognize the value provided by trails lead the efforts in building the Red Rock Ridge & Valley Trail System. The work of the Red Rock would not be possible without this powerful partnership that is dedicated to providing accessible and safe connections for Jefferson County communities.

The Freshwater Land Trust is a nonprofit organization whose mission is the acquisition and stewardship of lands that enhance water quality and preserve open space. We acquire, conserve, and connect open spaces that are critical for the protection of rivers and streams and that provide recreational opportunities for the community.

The Freshwater Land Trust is accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission. The accreditation seal recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national standards for excellence, uphold the public trust, and ensure that conservation efforts are permanent.

Some of our projects include Red Mountain Park, Turkey Creek Nature Preserve, Five Mile Creek Greenway, Homewood Forest Preserve, and Moss Rock Preserve in addition to the Red Rock Ridge & Valley Trail System.
